Abstract:

To provide a method for producing an iridium complex at a low temperature in high yield and to provide an organic EL device(organic electroluminescent device) having an optical output of blue to red of high luminance with high efficiency.

The iridium complex for the organic EL device is produced by using the iridium complex having a 4-membered ring structure in an auxiliary ligand as a raw material. The organic EL device has at least a pair of electrodes composed of an anode and a cathode and a layer composed of an organic compound sandwiched between the pair of electrodes. In the organic EL device, the layer composed of the organic compound contains the iridium complex represented by structural formula of the figure.
