Abstract:
To obtain a non-porous polymer composite simultaneously exhibiting both of bulk properties of a hydrophilic polymer and a hydrophobic polymer.
The polymer composite has a bicontinuous structure of two substantially nonporous phases, one being a hydrophilic polymer and the other being a hydrophobic polymer. The composite is prepared from a microemulsion comprising a radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated polar species in the aqueous phase, and a radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer in the oil phase. The microemulsion also contains a surfactant.
