Abstract:
To provide a method of producing N-alkyl pyrrolidone at low cost by efficiently recovering N-alkyl succinimide being an intermediate when producing N-alkyl pyrrolidone from succinic acid and its salts.
In a method of producing N-alkyl succinimide by making a composition containing a succinic acid derivative derived from a biomass resource and its salt react with an alkylating agent, a method of producing a composition containing N-alkyl succinimide includes adjusting pH of a reaction mixture, after the end of reaction, to 9.8 or less.
