To make it possible not only to gently pack an article easy to damage or injure but also to reutilize open-cell foam or to return the same to nature after use by applying uneveness to the surface of the open-cell foam produced from a raw material based on a food material or a food processing byproduct.
A raw material based on a food material or a food processing byproduct is extruded from the die 2 of the leading end of an extruder 1 as open-cell foam 13 by steam foaming. This open-cell foam 13 is pulled in an extrusion direction at a high speed by the nip rolls 5 provided to a press apparatus 3 and sent into the nip between first and second rolls 6, 7 at a constant speed. The open-cell foam 13 sent into the nip between the first and second rolls 6, 7 at a constant speed by the nip rolls 5 is pressed by the first roll 6 regulated in the gap with the second roll 7 and pressing pressure by a pressing adjusting device 9 provided to the first roll 6 and the second roll 7 to apply unevenness to the foam.
