Abstract:

To provide a method for producing pyromellitic acid, by which the pyromellitic acid can industrially and environmentally friendly be produced in a high yield from xylene or the like obtained as petrochemical products at low costs.

This method for producing the pyromellitic acid, comprising oxidizing a 1,2,4,5-substituted alkylbenzene derivative with oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst, is characterized by using the alkylbenzene derivative whose one to three substituents are one to three acetoxymethyl or hydroxymethyl groups.
