Abstract:

To provide a method for producing sizing agent-coated carbon fiber having good adhesiveness between carbon fiber and a matrix resin and having excellent high-order processability.

A method for producing sizing agent-coated carbon fiber comprises steps of: coating carbon fiber with a sizing agent, obtained by mixing 100 parts by mass of a component (A), that is, an epoxy compound (A1) having two or more epoxy groups and/or an epoxy compound (A2) having one or more epoxy groups and at least one or more functional groups selected from the group consisting of an unsaturated group, a hydroxyl group, an amide group, an imide group, a urethane group, a urea group, a sulfonyl group and sulfo group, with 0.1 to 25 parts by mass of a component (B) of quarternary phosphonium salt and/or phosphine; and heating the resultant carbon fiber at a temperature of 160 to 260°C for 30 to 600 seconds.
