To provide a method for producing a thermotropic liquid crystalline resin amenable to handle in solid polymerization without causing melt sticking and with little problems such as foaming even at high temperature circumference, and to obtain a thermotropic liquid crystalline resin composition comprising the thermotropic liquid crystalline resin produced by the method.
This method for producing a thermotropic liquid crystalline resin having an onset temperature of flow of 340°C or higher comprises heating a thermotropic liquid crystalline resin having an onset temperature of flow FT0 of 200 to 300°C substantially in a solid phase state from 200°C or lower resin temperature at a starting of raising temperature to (FT0+50)°C or higher terminal temperature (A°C) of raising temperature, where temperature raising is so performed that the average rate of raising temperature, at least in the stage (stage (1)) raising the resin temperature from (FT0+20)°C to (FT0+50)°C, is in the range exceeding 0.1°C/min and less than 0.5°C/min, and the onset temperature of flow of the thermotropic liquid crystalline resin at each resin temperature (t) is in the range of (t-10)°C or higher but (t+40)°C or lower.
