Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a vinyl chloride monomer by which the vinyl chloride monomer can be produced by more improving reaction selectivity.SOLUTION: There is provided the method of producing a vinyl chloride monomer by dehydration of 2-chloroethanol by a catalytic reaction with a solid acid catalyst which is a hydrogen-type zeolite, a ratio of silica/alumina in the hydrogen-type zeolite being over 20 and less than 70. The hydrogen-type zeolite is preferably a hydrogen-type mordenite and the ratio of silica/alumina in the hydrogen-type mordenite is preferably 25 to 60.
