Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for production of aromatic tetracarboxylic acid useful as a raw material of polyimide and the like being a polymeric material.SOLUTION: A production method for aromatic tetracarboxylic acid comprises: a first process of condensing an alkali metal salt of specific bisphenols with nitrophthalonitrile of a stoichiometric amount under the presence of an alkali metal salt catalyst, and forming an ether linkage to obtain a tetranitrile compound; and a second process of carrying out solvolysis of the tetranitrile compound obtained in the first process under the presence of acid or alkali.SELECTED DRAWING: None
