To update a gradual decoder by using an isolated region, a flexible macroblock order, and a turning-off loop filter at slice boundaries.
The present invention relates to a method for updating video contents stepwise in association with random access to encoded video sequences. In this method, the video sequence is composed of a number of video frames, the video contents of each frame are encoded by at least either a non-temporal prediction format or a temporal prediction format, the stepwise updating is implemented by specifying a region within a video region represented by the video frames and since each of encoded frames in the video sequences is decoded after the random access, the video contents in the region are updated stepwise. The region is gradually developed over two or more frame times according to a prescribed method, and all video regions represented by the video frames are covered, thereby completely updating the video contents.
