Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely control axial aero clearances of a compressor wheel and a turbine wheel.SOLUTION: A shaft extends in an axial direction. A bearing assembly supports the shaft in a housing. A wheel is connected to the shaft and rotates relatively to the housing. A clearance opening is defined in the axial direction between the wheel and the housing. A thrust washer is engaged with the bearing assembly. The thrust washer has an outer circumference and is movable relatively to the housing. An efficiency washer is disposed around the outer circumference of the thrust washer and determines the clearance opening by defining a space in which the thrust washer moves relatively to the housing in the axial direction.SELECTED DRAWING: None
