PURPOSE: To safely replace an existing tail cord with a new tail cord without the provision of a scaffold in an elevator shaft, by enabling a worker rides on an elevator car to manipulate an additionally provided manipulator so as to move the car up and down.
CONSTITUTION: The operation of an elevator car 3 is controlled by a control panel 5 in a machine room 1 in the upper part of an elevator shaft. If at least a part of tail cords 6 provided between the control panel 5 and the car 3 is replaced, the control panel 5 and a car control device 20 are connected together, and the control device 20 is suspended down to the upper part of the car 3. Then, the worker rides on the car 3, and disconnects one end of an existing movable tail cord 9 from an intermediate connecting box 8 which is then connected thereto with one end of a new movable rail cord, and thereafter, the control part 23 is manipulated to lower the car 3 down to the lower part of the shaft 2. The other end of the existing tail cord 9 is disconnected from the connecting box 10 within a pit 2, and the other end of the new tail cord is connected to the connecting box 10.
