METHOD FOR RETOUCHING DYE IMAGE, PHOTOGRAPHIC ELEMENT AND RETOUCHING COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To selectively retouch a dye image difficult to retouch by applying a water-soluble org. auxiliary solvent and a basic aq. soln. of a dinucleophilic agent to the dye image, cleaning the ballast group of the dye to make the dye soluble and removing the soluble dye.
CONSTITUTION: A cleavable ballast group is used in a dye forming coupler. When a dye image formed in a photographic element with a dye represented by the formula is retouched, a water-soluble org. auxiliary solvent and an aq. soln. of a dinucleophilic agent are applied to the dye image, the ballast group of the dye is cleaved to make the dye soluble and the soluble dye is removed from the photographic element. In the formula, D is a residue of an oxidized silver halide color developer, C is a residue of a dye forming coupler and Bal is a ballast group fixing the dye in the photographic element and making it mobile when cleaved from the remaining part of the dye by reaction with the dinucleophilic agent. The pref. coupler has a cleavable ballast group contg. one or two electrohpilic-cleabable groups capable of reacting with the dinucleophilic agent.
