To obtain the subject compound capable of being produced in a large scale with improving workability and suppressing generation of byproducts in high yield and at a low cost by reacting a specific compound with an inorganic base.
A vinylsulfonyl compound of formula II (R1 is an alkyl; R2 to R4 are each H or a monovalent group) is obtained by reacting a compound expressed by formula I (Z1 is a group capable of being eliminated by reacting with an inorganic base and forming a vinyl group, preferably chlorine, bromine or-OSO2-CH3) with an inorganic base (preferably NaHCO3, KHCO3, Na2HPO4 or K2HPO4). For example, ethylene bis(vinylsulfonyl) acetamide is obtained by adding ethylene bis(β-sulfonylmethanesulfonylethyl)acetamide to a mixture solution of water and acetonitrile added with Na2HPO4 and reacting them. The obtained vinylsulfonyl compound is able to present a gelatin film with high quality.
