Title:
METHOD TO FORM BONE CEMENT INTO IMPLANT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3507181
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To facilitate easy formation of an implant by having a bone cement mixture containing a liquid monomer compound applying to the implant in a fluid state, initiating polymerization of the liquid monomer by irradiation to the mixture in electromagnetic spectrum and hardening the resultant product.
CONSTITUTION: A cement mixture of a powder polymer, for example, polymethyl methacrylate and a liquid monomer, is prepared. The cement mixture is applied to an implant in a manual or an automated manufacturing process. Next, the cement mixture and implant are exposed to an irradiation source in an electromagnetic spectrum, for example, X-ray or gamma-ray in order to initiate polymerization of monomer in the cement mixture. Further, for an application of the cement mixture into the implant, an extrusion method may be used.
