Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treatment using fused aromatic compounds in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus, and of conditions that may be associated with diabetes mellitus, including obesity and lipid disorders.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a compound represented by formula I, wherein: Ring A is a 5- or 6-membered aromatic or heteroaromatic ring having 1-2 heteroatoms independently selected from O, S, and N; Ar1 and Ar2 are each independently phenyl, naphthyl, pyridinyl, pyrazinyl, or pyrimidinyl; -WZ is -O-C(R5)(R6)-Z, -S(O)-C(R5)(R6)-Z, or -CH2-C(R5)(R6)-Z; Z is -CO2R7 or tetrazole; B is -O-, -S(O)-, -N(R)-, -C(=O), or the like; and Rand Rare each independently halogen, -CN, -NO, -OH, alkyl, or the like.
