Eye parts of a protective mask 1 used for electric welding are provided with filter glass parts 2 having opening-closing mechanisms and a light part 3 for spot lighting is mounted at an upper part of the mask. A power source 5 for lighting is installed separately and a circuit opening/closing switch 7 is provided at a part of a welding rod holder 6. A spot lighting is applied to a weld starting point. Prior to it, the protective mask is previously worn and the glass filters 2 for protecting eyes are closed to protect the eye parts and a face. Under such a safe condition, the work starting point is visually checked and working is started. A sensor part 8 provided in a power source circuit for lighting in installed in proximity to a welding electric circuit and a lighting circuit is closed simultaneously with the generation of arc. Thereby, direct visual recognition of initial weld starting conditions is made possible, and visual checking for the safe condition of the initial weld working process can be performed.
