PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and compositions of treating an obstructive coronary artery disease in a mammalian subject.SOLUTION: An aromatic-cationic peptide has: at least one net positive charge; a minimum of four amino acids; a maximum of about 20 amino acids; a relationship between the minimum number of net positive charges (p) and the total number of amino acid residues (r) in which 3pis the largest number that is less than or equal to r+1; and a relationship between the minimum number of aromatic groups (a) and the total number of net positive charges (p) in which 2a is the largest number that is less than or equal to p+1 except when a is 1 and pis also 1.SELECTED DRAWING: None
