To provide a method and a system for decomposing an organic halogen compound, capable of detoxicating the oil, in which the organic halogen compound such as insulating oil used in a pole transformer is mixed, easily in a short period of time without requiring the labor for separating a catalyst and with a low possibility of generation of a side reaction product.
The method is for decomposing the organic halogen compound in the oil filled or stored in a container. In the method, a mixture liquid obtained by adding a hydrogen donor and an alkaline compound to the oil including the organic halogen compound is circulated in the container while letting the liquid flow into a first catalyst filled device set in the container, and part of the mixture liquid is circulated between the container and a microwave applicator while letting the liquid flow into a second catalyst filled device set inside the microwave applicator disposed near the container. Microwaves are applied when the mixture liquid flows in the second catalyst filled device. The system for decomposition is of a microwave simultaneous use type, comprising the first and second catalyst filled devices with organic halogen compound decomposing catalysts.
