Abstract:
To obtain a binder for glass fiber effective for preventing the generation of formaldehyde in deoiling and exhibiting good yarn properties by including urea in starch or including a modified starch esterified with carbamic acid.
Starch such as corn starch is subjected to hydrolysis or crosslinking treatment and added with 2-10 wt.%, preferably 3-5 wt.% (based on the starch) of urea or said starch is thermally reacted with urea at ≥120°C to esterify the starch with carbamic acid. The starch esterified with carbamic acid is compounded with a lubricant, a cationic softener, a surfactant and other additive to obtain a binder for glass fiber.
