To provide a molten metal surface level control process in continuous casting by which the satisfactory control of a molten metal surface can be performed even in the case where the variation in the molten metal surface caused by unsteady bulging is not generated on molten metal surface level control using a disturbance quantity compensation control system.
In the molten metal surface level control process, the inflow of molten metal into a mold is controlled by an actuator 8, and a feedback control system 21 and a disturbance quantity compensation control system 22 are used. The process comprises a disturbance generation discrimination part 23 where whether disturbance caused by unsteady bulging is generated or not is discriminated based on two or more selected from disturbance quantity estimates 48, molten metal surface level actual measurements 41, pinch roll motor current results 51 and casting rate results 52. At the time when it is discriminated that disturbance caused by unsteady bulging is generated in the disturbance generation discrimination part 23, a correction signal 50 based on the disturbance quantity compensation control system 22 is applied to the actuator 8 as the correction signal of the operation signal in the feedback control system 21.
