PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicolor-patterned coating compsn. which contains particles with a low water content and can dry quickly.
SOLUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by dispersing fibrous and/or flaky water- contg. colored gel particles of gellan gum in a resin emulsion. The fibrous colored gel particles are produced by causing a mixture comprising an aq. soln. of gellan gum, an acryl-urethane copolymer resin emulsion and/or an acryl-silicone copolymer resin emulsion, and an aq. dispersion of a coloring pigment to gel into a fibrous form by using a 0.5-0.1% aq. soln. of calcium or magnesium chloride as the gelling agent. A plurality of kinds of differently colored gel particles, optionally contg. transparent particles, may be used. The compsn. can be formed into a multicolored smooth coating film, can be sprayed to form a beautiful multicolored coating film with a uniform finish economically by an easy work, and can form a uniform coating film even when applied to a building wherein recessed corners, projected corners, and plane parts are connected continuously.
