Abstract:
To provide a multilevel optical recording medium in which the influences of the in-plane fluctuation on the characteristics of the recording layer can be corrected.
The multilevel optical recording medium has at least a recording layer and makes multilevel recording possible by controlling the state of the recording layer 12 in multiple levels. A plurality of calibration signals are stored in the recording layer 12, and thereby, the in-plane fluctuation of the recording layer 12 is detected by a driving system and can be corrected. Therefore, even when the in-plane fluctuation is present in the recording layer 12, the data recorded in the multiple levels can accurately be read out.
