Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a glass preform having high productivity because of forced cooling of glass preform without dropping temperature of heating furnace and excellent surface state free from adhesion of impurities because of cooling without bringing the glass preform into contact with the open air.
CONSTITUTION: A cooling column 19 is set on the top of a heating furnace 11, a high-temperature glass preform 27 after being transparently vitrified in the heating furnace 11 is raised into the cooling column 19, sprayed with a clear cooling gas in the cooling column 11 and the glass preform 27 is forcedly chilled.
