Abstract:

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject colorless transparent polymer having moderate reactivity and, accordingly, high compatibility to other resins and suitable for polymer alloying by carrying out interfacial polymerization of a specific component such as aromatic dicarboxylic acid halide. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer is produced by the interfacial polymerization of (A) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid halide (preferably terephthaloyl chloride, etc.), (B) a dihydric phenolic compound [preferably bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) methane, etc.], (C) a carboxylic acid derivative substituted with hydroxyl group (preferably salicylic acid, etc.) and (D) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (preferably terephthalic acid, etc.) in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst (e.g. trimethylbenzyl ammonium halide). Preferably, the molar ratio of (B+C+D)/A is 0.8-1.2 and that of (C+D)/A is 0.001-0.3.
