Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is 1W10C alkyl; the ring A has single bond or double bond).
EXAMPLE: 6-Cyano-2-naphthyl-(4-butylbenzyl)ketone.
USE: A liquid crystal compound. It has high compatibility with various other liquid crystal substances (e.g. ester, Schiff base, biphenyl, heterocyclic compound, etc.), and the optical anisotropy of a liquid compound can be increased by the addition of a small amount of the present compound.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the naphthyl ketone derivative of formula II with cuprous cyanide in a basic solvent such as N,N'-dimethylformamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, etc.
