PURPOSE: To obtain an acrylic or a methacrylic ester, containing epoxy group and useful as a coating, an adhesive, a photo-setting resin or a modifier for plastics or rubbers and provide a method for producing the ester.

CONSTITUTION: This epoxy (meth)acrylate of formula I [R1 is H or methyl; at least any one of Ra, Rb and Rc is formula II [R2, R3, R66, R7 and R10 are each H or a 1-10C alkyl; R4, R5, R8 and R9 are each H or a 1-5C alkyl; (k) is 0-10; (1) is 0-2; (m) is 0-10; (n) is 1-2] and the rest are each H]. The compound is obtained by epoxidizing an acrylate or a methacrylate containing an alkenyl group of formula III (at least any one of Re, Rf and Rg is formula IV and the rest are each H) according to oxidizing reaction. The compound of formula III is obtained by carrying out the esterification or transesterification of (meth) acrylic acid or its ester with alcohols of the formula HOReRfRg. The compound of formula I is excellent in balance between the pot life and curing reactivity in any curing systems of cationic polymerizing reaction and reaction with carboxyl group.
