To produce the subject new derivative comprising a specific phthalaldenyde derivative, capable of suppressing glucose-6-phosphate translocase and useful for producing a prophylactic and therapeutic agent, etc., for glucose dysmetabolism of a human body, especially for producing a therapeutic agent, etc., for diabetes mellitus.
This new phthalaldehyde derivative (salt) is represented by the formula (R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkenyl or a 1-4C acyl; R3 is a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkenyl, OH, OR1, SR1 or NR1R2; R4 to R9 are each H or methyl) [e.g. flavipin (3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-methyl-o-phthalaldehyde)] and is useful for producing a prophylactic and therapeutic agent for glucose dysmetabolism of a human body, especially for producing a therapeutic agent, etc., for diabetes mellitus. The compound is produced by culturing Hericium erinaceus DSM 10600 which is a basidiomycetous strain in a nutrient solution containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source and a usual inorganic salt.
