To provide newsprint paper for cold set type offset printing having high whiteness and excellent glossiness after printing and suitable for high-definition printing, especially FM (frequency modulation) screen printing.
The newsprint paper for the cold set type offset printing is obtained by coating one or both surfaces of base paper containing ≥50 mass% of mechanical pulp in raw material pulp and having ≥73% whiteness with a coating composition consisting essentially of a pigment and a binder in a coating weight within the range of 0.7-4.0 g/m2 based on one surface. The newsprint paper for the cold set type offset printing has 4.0-7.0 μm surface roughness under 20 kgf/cm2 clamping pressure with a PPS (parker print surf), ≥0.2 strain when pressurized to 4.08 MPa and ≥15% printing glossiness.
