Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compound, useful as electrooptical devices, optical integrated devices, optical memory light sources, optical switches, etc., and capable of exhibiting high nonlinear optical effects.

CONSTITUTION: A nitrophenylprolinol compound expressed by formula I (A is electron attractive group; (n) is 1-4), e.g. a compound expressed by formula II. The above-mentioned compound is obtained by dissolving, e.g. L-prolinol in CH3CN, adding K2CO3, stirring the mixture, then adding 3,4- difluoronitrobenzene dissolved in CH3CN to the resultant solution and refluxing the reaction mixture in a nitrogen gas stream.
