Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the nonlinear optical org. material which has excellent crystallinity and has the activity to generate second harmonic waves (SHG) and the cutoff wavelength of which exists in a short wavelength region by using specific quinic acid. CONSTITUTION:The (-)-quinic acid expressed by formula I is used. The (-)- quinic acid is a compd. corresponding to 1,3,4,5-tetrahydroxycyclohexane-1- carboxylic acid and has 4 hydroxyl groups and 1 carboxyl group in the skeleton of a 6-membered ring. A large hydrogen bond is expected in the molecular ring. The nonlinear optical org. material which is stable in a warm room, has the extremely good crystallinity, is white, has the excellent transparency and has the cutoff wavelength existing in the short wavelength region is thus obtd.
