Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:A lignan derivative of formula I (R1 is methyl, while R2 is hydroxy or R1 is acetoxymethyl and R2 is H).

EXAMPLE: (-)-(6R,R-biar)-5,6-Dihydro-1,2,3,10,11,12-hexamethoxy-6,7-dibenzo[a,c] cyclooctenol.

USE: Medicine, antiulcerative. It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers.

PREPARATION: Dried fruits of Schizandra chinensis Baill is subjected to extraction with lower hydrocarbons such as petroleum ether. The solvent is removed from the extract, the residue is subjected to steam distillation and silica gel chromatography to form Schisandrin of formula II. The product is dehydrated with POCL3 to give dehydrated Schinsandrin. The dehydrated compound is oxidized with an oxidizing agent such as SeO2 to give a compound of formula I where R1 is methyl and R2 is OH.
