To provide an occupant protection apparatus which is capable of sufficiently eliminating slackness of a seat belt without giving an occupant a sense of discomfort.
A temperature detection part 20 detects a surface temperature of an occupant on the basis of image data acquired by an infrared camera 21. When a tongue plate of a seat belt is engaged with a buckle, a control part 17 determines whether the surface temperature of the occupant detected by the temperature detection part 20 is not less than a prescribed temperature. If the surface temperature of the occupant is not less than the prescribed temperature, the control part 17 rotates a motor by a first driving force via a motor driving part 12e, and if the surface temperature is less than the prescribed temperature, rotates the motor by a second driving force which is stronger than the first driving force via the motor driving part 12e.
