To provide a method changing methanol primary fuel into dimethyl ether-contained fuel on a vehicle body for operating a compression ignition engine, by eliminating the difficulty in handling and storing of the fuel, particularly on a vehicle.
In this operating method of a compression ignition engine, using dimethly ether-contained fuel obtained by converting methanol primary fuel, the operating method includes each step as follows, (a) methanol primary fuel is compressed in a liquid-state to the end engine injection pressure, (b) this compressed primary fuel is preheated by heat provided in exhaust gas of the engine, (c) primary fuel is introduced at injection temperature and injection pressure of the engine and converted into dimethyl ether-contained fuel by contact with methanol dewatered catalyst and (d) this dimethyl ether- contained fuel is injected at injection pressure and injection temperature into the engine.
