To provide an operating method for an internal-combustion engine having a pressure resistance in the exhaust system of the engine in which the exhaust back pressure can be decided accurately as much as possible for the specified range of crank angle.
The operating method for the internal-combustion engine 1 is structured so that at least one pressure resistance 5 exists in the exhaust system 10 of the engine in which the exhaust back pressure is decided, wherein for the specified range of crank angle, the exhaust back pressure diagram or its mean is decided as a function of the mean pressure during one engine working cycle at the exhaust valve 15, the mean pressure during one engine working cycle at the back in the flowing direction of at least one pressure resistance 5, and the engine speed. In this manner it is possible to accurately decide the exhaust back pressure for the specified range of crank angle.
