Abstract:
To provide an optical encoder capable of maintaining detection precision of a signal without considering restrictions in design of a light source even if mutual arrangement positions of components vary and a separation distance deviates while reducing the number of components.SOLUTION: An optical encoder 1 includes: a plate-like scale 2 having a scale grid 20 formed at a predetermined period along a length measurement direction; and a detection head 3 provided so as to be capable of traveling relative to the scale 2 along a length measurement direction. The detection head 3 includes: a light source 4; a grid plate 5 disposed between the light source 4 and the scale 2 and reflecting light reflected by the scale 2 toward the scale 2 again; and light reception means 6 for receiving light reflected by the scale 2 after being reflected by the grid plate 5. The grid plate 5 has plural grids 50 provided opposite to the scale grid 20 formed at a predetermined period along a longitudinal direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
