Title:
OPTICAL PART FOR OPTICAL ISOLATOR OR OPTICAL MAGNETIC FIELD SENSOR, PRODUCTION AND OPTICAL ISOLATOR CONNECTED TO OPTICAL FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3734011
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize an effective area by joining and fixing a polarizer on at least one face of a Faraday rotator and polishing the end face of the polarizer to decrease the thickness of the polarizer, while the polarizer is joined and fixed to the Faraday rotator.
SOLUTION: An optical part is produced by joining a first polarizer 1, a Faraday rotator 2 and a second polarizer 3. Both optical faces 1a, 1b of the first polarizer 1 and both optical faces 3a, 3b of the second polarizer 3 are subjected to reduction treatment of silver halides aligned on the faces to form a silver particle reduced layer on each face. Then the optical faces 1a, 3b, which are not the joining side of the first polarizer 1 and second polarizer 3 in the joined state, are subjected to mechanical surface polishing, and additionally as necessary, to mirror-polishing to decrease the thickness of the first polarizer 1 and the second polarizer 3. Thereby, by polishing a polarizing material, such as the first polarizer 1 and the second polarizer 2 in the joined state to reduce the thickness, the effective area of the optical part can be minimized.
