Title:
OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH10337956
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain an optical recording medium exhibiting stabilized. photochemical hole burning effect under room temperature and advantageous for making a thin film device in which chemical durability and surface strength are enhanced, by employing an amorphous oxide thin film containing Sm2+ as photoactive ion.

The optical recording medium comprises an amorphous oxide thin film containing Sm2+ as photoactive ion formed on a substrate. The photoactive ion can enhance absorbance and emission intensity when the quantity of Sm2+ with respect to all cations is set in the range of 0.1-10% by atomic ratio. Si ions are set at 50% or above of cations by atomic ratio. Any vitreous metal oxide may be employed as the total amorphous oxide thin film and SiO2 is especially employed and one kind or more than one kind of oxide may be employed. Thickness of the amorphous oxide thin film to be formed on the substrate is set in the range of 100-20000 nm. That range of thickness ensures a sufficient signal strength without increasing the material cost.
