The optical scanner for scanning a plurality of light beams from a plurality of light sources in a main scanning direction includes a light source driving control means 50 which controls to drive the plurality of light sources, wherein when a virtual light source line is defined as an arrangement of light beams in a subscanning direction in view of the possibility of that the light emitting positions of the plurality of light sources are different from the arrangement of the light beams from the plurality of light sources in the case of the plurality of light sources, the light source driving control means 50 controls to drive the plurality of light sources in a way that L (L2) virtual light source lines arranged in the subscanning direction form L pixels, wherein one virtual light source line forms one pixel by emitting and scanning the M ((N-1)M1) light sources out of N (N2) light sources which can scan different positions in the subscanning direction, and the arrangement gap of the light sources in the subscanning direction corresponding to the adjacent light beams in the virtual light source line is 5 m.
