Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the nonlinear resistance of optical signal of an optical communication system.
SOLUTION: Related to an optical transmitter, CW light emitted from a light source 1 is phase modulated by an electric clock signal with a frequency which is a half of the bit rate frequency at an optical phase modulator 24. The phase-modulated light is so limited in pass band by an optical filter 25 so as to extract only a carrier wave and both of first sideband waves. The optical signal, after having passed the optical filter 25, is amplified by a first optical amplifier 2, and then data modulated by an optical intensity modulator 21. The data-modulated optical signal is amplified by a second optical amplifier 3, and then transmitted to a transmission path.
