Title:
OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE CIRCUIT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3184426
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent scattered light generated in an optical waveguide from straying into other waveguides and reduce a crosstalk quantity by removing a new clad part of a propagation path for signal light up to desired thickness and sticking a light absorbing material on the part.
CONSTITUTION: The clad part 3 which is unneccessary for the propagation of waveguide light is removed up to desired thickness. A light shield process is performed by sticking an absorbed 5 on the entire surface of this circuit by vapor deposition, coating, or printing, etc. Consequently, scattered light which is generated during the propagation of waveguide light and propagated in the clad 3' is absorbed by the interface between the clad 3' and light absorber 5, so crosstalk can be prevented from being caused. The sticking position of the light absorber 5 is sufficiently distant from core patterns 1 and 2, so the propagation loss may not be worsened. The depth to which the unncessary clad part is removed is determined in total consideration of the time of the removal processing, the light absorption performance of the light absorber 5, the influence of stress between the clad layer and substrate 4 on the circuit performance, requested crosstalk, etc.
