PURPOSE: To speedily set a fed original at an exposure position by actuating a separating means and conveying the head end of the original to a registering means, and sending it out by confirming that there is no precedent original after lapse of the specific time.

CONSTITUTION: A paper feeding motor MT1 is stopped after lapse of the specific time after the head of the document is detected, and the head end of the original is pressed against the contact between register rollers 26 and 27. The paper feeding motor MT1 is actuated at the same time or with slight delay behind a carrying motor MT2, a conveyor belt 34 is also in operation during paper feeding operation, and the original head is detected by a paper discharge sensor 45 when the original left on a platen P is present thereon. When no document is left on the platen P, the paper feeding motor MT1 is reactuated after lapse of the specific time after the conveying motor MT2 is actuated to send the original which is precedingly fed, toward between the conveyor belt 34 and platen P through the operation of separating roller 24 and register rollers 26 and 27. Therefore, even when the original is left, excellent paper feeding/ discharging operation is attained.
