Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To oxidize a compound having a carbon - hydrogen bond adjacent to an unsaturated bond in high efficiency by using a photocatalyst. SOLUTION: The oxidization of a compound having a carbon - hydrogen bond adjacent to an unsaturated bond is carried out by oxidizing the compound with molecular oxygen and/or a peroxide in the presence of a titanium dioxide catalyst under light irradiation to form the corresponding oxidation product. An example of preferable titanium oxide catalyst is an anatase-rutile mixed titanium dioxide catalyst. The weight ratio of the anatase titanium dioxide to the rutile titanium dioxide (anatase/rutile) in the anatase-rutile mixed titanium dioxide catalyst is e.g. 0.1/99.9 to 99.5/0.5 or thereabout.
