PURPOSE: To provide a differential mechanism which is light and high in a drive force by a method wherein a drive source is set to one, drive wheels are attached one at each end of a vehicle, and a torque limiter type or a clutch type coupler is arranged between the drives.
CONSTITUTION: A motor 1 is set to one, drive wheels 7 are mounted at both the right and the left, and further a torque limiter type or a clutch type coupler 4 is arranged between the drive wheels 7 on the right and the left. When torque is exerted on either of the drive wheels 7 owing to resistance, twist torque is generated between drive shafts 3 and 5 intercoupled through the coupler 4. When the torque is increased to a value higher than the value of torque predetermined by a regulating nut, a slip occurs between a frictional disc and a sprocket and a difference is produced between the numbers of revolutions of the drive shafts 3 and 5. Thereby, the part forms a differential mechanism and a difference between the numbers of revolutions of the drive wheels during turning of a vehicle is absorbed. This constitution causes reduction of the weight of the differential mechanism, improvement of running characteristics, especially the turning characteristics, and ensurance of stability of a vehicle during running.
