This paper sheet transporting device is constituted so as to let the paper sheet being received and delivered to resist rollers 21a and 21b by a transporting section 14, allowed to pass to the image forming section 2 side by the forward rotation of the resist rollers 21a and 21b, in this case, to recognize a state that both side of the paper sheet is respectively allowed to pass through the resist rollers 21a and 21b over the all width based on the output of a detecting signal of plural resist detecting units 24a and 24b for detecting the leading end of the paper sheet, to return the paper sheet after this recognition, until the leading end reaches the nip part between the resist rollers 21a and 21b by the backward rotation of the resist rollers 21a and 21b, and to stop at a specified position while loosening the paper sheet. Therefor, the position of leading end of the paper sheet can be accurately stipulated by correcting the skew even in the case of the occurrence of the skew.
