To more simply obtain the subject compound that is useful as a detergent, a water repellent, a lubricant or a liquid crystal through a simple process by direct addition reaction of a perfluorocarboxylic acid to an olefin under heating in the absence of solvent.
One equivalent amount of a perfluoro group-bearing carboxylic acid of the formula: RfCO2H [Rf is a (substituted) 1-20 perfluoroalkyl] and 1-6 equivalent amount, 3-4 equivalent amount of an olefin of the formula: CHR1=CHR2 [R1 is H, a 1-5C alkyl; R2 is a (substituted) 1-20C alkyl] as octene-1 are heated without solvent at 80-180°C, preferably at 120-160°C to effect their regio-selective addition reaction thereby giving the objective compound such as 2-octyl perfluoromorpholinoacetate in high yield through a simpler process.
