NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I [wherein A and C are each a single bond or 1-8C hydrocarbon chain optionally interrupted by a heteroatom; B is formula II-VII (wherein X is O or S; R and R' are each H or 1-4C alkyl; and D is a chain which can be interrupted by a heteroatom)].
EXAMPLE: N-[2-[3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl]ethyl]-3,5-di-t-butyl-4- hydroxybenzamide.
USE: Anti-arteriosclerotic. The compound has anti-inflammatory, cyto-protective and antasthmatic effects. Further, the compound can be employed as an inhibitor of lipid peroxidation caused by reperfusion and as a stabilizer of lung surface activating factor.
PREPARATION: A carboxylic acid of formula VIII or its derivative is reacted with an amine of formula IX in the presence of a base in an inert solvent to obtain a compound of formula I.
