Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: A compd. of formula I [wherein n is 5-9; m is 1-3; R1 is methyl, halogen, etc.; X is 0 excluding the case when R1 is methyl, or X is a group of formula II (wherein R4 is isopropyl, etc.; and R5 is H or OH), and R2 and R3 are each H, or when X is 0, then they are each methyl or ethyl] and a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: N-8-(4-tolyl)octyl-4-hydroxy-4-phenylpiperidine.
USE: A fungicide, esp. useful for controlling powdery mildew of grains.
PROCESS: A compd. of formula I is obtd. by reacting a phenylalkyl compd. of formula III (wherein X is a leaving group nucleophilically substitutable) with a substd. sec. amine of formula IV in the presence of an assistant base (e.g. Na2CO3 or K2CO3) and if necessary in the presence of a solvent.
