PURPOSE: To perform regular photocomposing while character editing is easily carried out during JUST photocomposing for improving editing work efficiency of an operator by a method wherein a table is provided to store information during blank typing in a ring form, a re-editing machine compares the information on characters during blank typing with that of selected characters during JUST photocomposing, and when they are different from each other, the table is reconstituted as if the selected characters are chosen during blank typing.

CONSTITUTION: During blank typing, the displacement in the transfer direction of characters is calculated by a character information analyzer 2, and the information and position of the characters at present are stored in a character information memory 7. The memory at this time is of a ring form having regions where the addresses to the last and next character information tables are stored, and the addresses are changed by the character information to rearrange the ring, so that the order of the characters can be changed.
