To achieve cost-reduction of a large-area photoelectric converter, to improve performance by simplifying signal processing and to achieve ready mounting of one kind of IC on any of upper and lower sides or right and left sides of an array of photoelectric converting elements.
In the photoelectric converter with a plurality of substrates 100, 150, each having the plurality of photoelectric converting elements, adjacently disposed, detection circuits IC-1 to IC-10 include a plurality of first integrated circuits disposed on one of two opposite sides of the array and a plurality of second integrated circuits disposed on the other side. The pluralities of the first and second integrated circuits have the same configuration achieving bi-directional operation. The operating directions of the pluralities of first and second integrated circuits are determined such that the pluralities of first and second integrated circuits detect signals from the array in the same direction by inputting a first common input signal into the plurality of first integrated circuits and inputting a second common input signal into the plurality of second integrated circuits.
